About Emma
Emma is an experienced and highly qualified voice teacher, performer, and NCVS trained vocologist. She specialises in Contemporary Singing, including Pop, Jazz, Rock, Soul, R&B, Musical Theatre and more.
Emma has been singing for as long as she can remember, and she feels privileged to be able to share her love for singing and music with her students. An accomplished vocalist who has been performing and teaching for over 15 years, Emma has always held a passion for all things voice!
Emma has experience performing a wide variety of Contemporary Commercial Music (CCM) styles, as well as musical theatre. Emma currently enjoys performing with her acoustic covers duo, Hummingbird, as well as solo and in collaboration with other local musicians.
Currently, Emma maintains a busy private teaching practice at Browning Street Studios, South Brisbane, where she is also the head of the Vocal Department. In addition, she is a lecturer and voice teacher in the Bachelor of Contemporary Music & Performance at JMC Academy, Brisbane. As a teacher, she has a particular interest in helping students develop the skills necessary to be a successful and authentic CCM vocalist while maintaining and building a reliable, healthy voice.
Qualifications and Experience:
Emma holds a Masters Degree in Vocal Pedagogy from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, where she studied under renowned contemporary voice guru Dr Irene Bartlett, in addition to a Bachelor of Music (Performance) from Queensland University of Technology.
A fully trained Vocologist, Emma completed the Summer Vocology Institute (SVI) under the direction of Dr Ingo Titze, Dr Kittie Verdoline, Dr Matt Edwards, Dr Aaron Johnson and other leading voice professionals at the National Centre for Voice and Speech in the United States.
Emma’s teaching is based on a thorough and up to date knowledge of vocal pedagogy and voice science research, and she is constantly undertaking professional development as a member of both the Australian National Association of Teachers of Singing (ANATS), for whom she is the President of the Qld chapter and the National Membership Secretary; and the Australian Voice Association (AVA). She has worked with a wide range of singers, from beginners to professionals, of all ages, and is a sought-after workshop presenter.
