About Emma

Emma is an experienced and highly qualified voice teacher and performer, who specialises in Contemporary Singing, including Pop, Jazz, Rock, Soul, R&B, Musical Theatre and more.

She has been singing for as long as she can remember, and feels privileged to be able to share her love for singing and music with her students. Emma is an accomplished vocalist and has always held a passion for performing. She has been singing since her childhood, and has been regularly gigging since age 17.

Emma has experience performing a wide variety of Contemporary Commercial Music (CCM) styles, as well as musical theatre. She currently enjoys performing with her duo, Hummingbird, as well as solo and in collaboration with other local musicians. Performance highlights have included venues such as the Brisbane Riverstage, the Brisbane Festival Spiegeltent, the Brisbane Powerhouse, The Zoo, The Globe Theatre, as well as many restaurants, cafés, and function venues.

Qualifications and Experience

Emma holds a Masters Degree in Vocal Pedagogy from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, where she studied under renowned contemporary voice guru Dr Irene Bartlett, in addition to a Bachelor of Music (Performance) from Queensland University of Technology. Emma has recently completed Block 1 of the Summer Vocology Institute under the direction of Dr Ingo Titze, at the National Centre for Voice and Speech in the United States. She will undertake the remainder of the training in 2019.

Emma maintains a busy private teaching practice at Browning Street Studios, South Brisbane, where she is also the head of the Vocal Department. She also teaches in the Bachelor of Contemporary Music & Performance at JMC Academy, Brisbane. As a teacher, she has a particular interest in helping students develop the skills necessary to be a successful CCM vocalist while maintaining and building a reliable, healthy voice.

Emma’s teaching is based on a thorough and up to date knowledge of vocal pedagogy and voice science, and she is constantly undertaking professional development as a member of both the Australian National Association of Teachers of Singing (ANATS) Qld, for whom she is also a Qld committee member and National Board member; and the Australian Voice Association (AVA). She has worked with a wide range of singers, from beginners to professionals, of all ages, and is a sought-after workshop presenter.
